louis duplantis | 39 | male | 6'2

along I-10 interstate just on the outskirts of the atchafalaya basin in louisiana, there's a large billboard advertising the opportunity to see the worlds largest american alligators. this roadside attraction is ran by boyd and louis duplantis, two brothers who inherited their father's gator farm almost 15 years ago.

they offer boat tours of their sprawling bayou property, as well as opportunity to hold baby gators and to learn all about these unique creatures. the brothers live in a single-wide trailer on a quiet, tucked away corner of the property, only accessible via locked gate.

personality

louis is both a businessman and a showman. there are very few people in his little parish that don't know about louis duplantis. he is sociable, calm, charming, quick-witted and charismatic. louis is skilled at connecting with people, regardless if they have anything in common to share between each other. he's worked hard to create an exterior image of a friendly, honest 'good ol boy'. yet on the inside, louis is extremely troubled and detests others outside of his very small circle. louis is eager to hold a grudge, and doesn't take it lightly when he feels like he's been wronged by someone.

louis often feels isolated from others, like he truly can never connect or be understood by anyone aside from his older brother, boyd. because of this, he feels a special connection to nature and the animals they work with. he's an avid photographer and spends his time off taking pictures deep in the swamp, capturing the beauty of louisiana's wilderness.

family is also incredibly important to louis, despite everything. he does his best to ensure that his brother boyd and his niece maisy have a home cooked dinner almost every day, even if he's exhausted and overworked.

this isn't to say that louis doesn't enjoy luxury. his time off is his to do as he pleases, and he doesn't like having his quiet time interrupted. louis loves sitting on the porch with a cold beer while boyd BBQs, or laying in bed smoking cigarettes while reading his magazines and listening to his tammy wynette records. his homosexuality is regarded as an open secret in the community.

background

boyd and louis had a difficult childhood, being raised in a very poor family on the same property they live at now. both boys were abused extensively by their father and were often subjected to very cruel and unusal punishments. their mother was aware of the abuse, but refused to have any sort of conflict or confrontation, instead choosing to let it happen while pretending to be unaware. louis was a diligent student and maintained good grades despite having to balance both work on the gator farm and his schooling. he had high hopes of continuing on to college to become either a lawyer, wanting to escape poverty and leave his family far behind but this would quickly fall apart after the disappearance of his father.

while the general conclusion was that their father had run off with a woman and abandoned his failing business, louis would come to suspect that his older brother boyd had killed their father. when he confronted boyd he refused to admit anything to his brother and quickly put an end to the matter, telling louis to never ask him about it again as long as he lived. though he knew the truth, louis instead decided to be grateful for his brother freeing them from their father, and the two of them decided to try to bring business back to their father's failed roadside attraction.

whether he was aware of it or not, boyd would get a taste for violence after the incident with their dad. where the murder of their father had been impulsive after having enough of the abuse, he would kill again, louis decided to keep his brother's secret, helping him dispose of the body by feeding it to the gators. this would happen several more times, and the two brothers noticed that not only did the gators have a taste for human flesh now, but they had grown to an abnormally large size. with boyd needing to satisfy his urges and louis looking to grow their business, the two started to kill more frequently. the bigger the gators got, the more people came to see them, creating a sort of mutualistic relationship between both brothers and the gators themselves.

now

after the death of their mother years ago, it's been just boyd and louis. they've settled into their lives, content with kidnapping the occassional tourist and butchering them to satisfy both boyd and the gators. things change once louis receives a phone call from their cousin wyatt, newly divorced and seeking to get away from his ex-wife lenore. wyatt's moved his camper onto the property where he lives with his 6 year old daughter, maisy.

this sudden intrusion has threatened their way of life, and now boyd and louis have to find a way to both balance their public lives, and their secrets behind closed doors.
